The “Royal Empire Society Perth” started in 1954 with about 100 members and grew steadily during the 1960s and 1970s to over 900 members. This growth in membership and activity saw the financial position of the Society grow to allow the acquisition of its premises in Subiaco, in 1965, where it operated until moving the Royal Australian Air Force Association, Air Force Memorial Estate, in Bull Creek, in 1998. The choice of new premises was based on the facilities available at Bull Creek matching the WA Branch requirements and because of the strong connection with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) over many years.
The Society in Western Australia has helped to bring together members of the Community, generally, with many examples of isolated individuals finding common ground, new friendships formed, and even blossoming of life partnerships.
One prime example of the RCS bringing Community and the RAAF together was at the popular annual Commonwealth Ball held at Government House Ballroom. The Society has developed much more over the years and today bit still brings people together by promoting knowledge and understanding of the peoples and countries of the Commonwealth.
Events include Annual Speech and Leadership Contest – open to all Year 9, 10, 11 & 12 students from all WA schools. Annual Commonwealth Day events in March; Multi-Faith Observance at St. George’s Cathedral and Youth Harmony Program held at Government House. WA Day Event – Flag Raising and Cadet Parade including Girl Guides and Scouts, held in the Government House grounds.
Please see the ‘Events’ section of this website for more details of activities.
